Like an ancient Greek tragedy, the works of Sebastião Salgado and Thalia Kerouli move between pain and beauty, transforming fragility into strength and memory into epic.
Through his photographic lens, Salgado journeys across mines, scorched earth, remote glaciers, and refugee camps, capturing the essence of lives lived at the margins. His images, forged in extreme conditions, restore dignity and grandeur, elevating his subjects to heroic figures.
In contrast, Kerouli transforms humble recycled paper into skin, landscape, and memory. She folds, tears, and layers the material, allowing the marks of time to surface as ancient wounds and scars—silent echoes of the past made tangible.
The exhibition “Traces”, presented by K23, brings together these two artists who, through different languages, build a bridge between reality and myth. Like a Greek tragedy, their work stages the human condition, revealing how brokenness can become beauty, and how every story, when told with truth, attains universality.
